EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage
and management, extended its storage software revenue lead
for the sixth consecutive quarter in the first quarter of
2005, according to a report released today by IDC [a]. #1
EMC had 30% revenue share in the first quarter, widening
its lead over VERITAS, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Computer
Associates.
Howard Elias, EMC's Executive Vice President of Corporate
Marketing and Office of Technology, said, "Our software
leadership continues to be defined by our ability to manage
and protect information throughout its lifecycle while enabling
customers to reduce their overall IT costs, drive complexity
and rigidity out of their IT infrastructures and take advantage
of change. Customer appreciation for our focus and the value
we place on innovation helped us to again outpace the total
storage software market and deliver strong market share
gains in the storage resource management and backup and
archive markets, two of the hottest segments within storage
software today."
First Quarter Highlights
IDC reported that EMC continued to be #1 in the Storage
Resource Management (SRM) and Replication software segments,
and for the first time EMC captured the #2 position in the
Backup and Archive software segment (statistically tied
with IBM). EMC posted greater revenue share gains than any
other supplier tracked in both the SRM and Backup and Archive
software segments, which represented the two largest storage
software markets in the first quarter.
According to IDC, #1 EMC extended its lead in the SRM software
segment to 50.6% revenue share, more than four times the
share of its closest competitor. #1 EMC grew replication
software revenues 15.4% in the quarter to lead with 39.5%
revenue share. EMC grew its share of the Backup and Archive
software segment 1.2 percentage points, moving it into the
#2 position and gaining share against the segment leader.
Today EMC discusses the power of integrating hardware, software
and services for Backup, Recovery and Archive during an
online presentation available at www.emc.com/buracast.
