EMC Announces Enterprise Software for Archiving Document Images
¡ª¡ªFrom EMC Corporation. May 16 2006
Leverages EMC's Documentum and Captiva Core Technologies, Further Extends EMC's Enterprise Archiving Strategy
EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management
and storage, today announced EMC Documentum® Archive Services
for Imaging software, the latest addition to its family
of enterprise archiving software products. The software
offering provides customers a single, unified archiving
platform for collecting, retaining, securing and retrieving
all types of document images for compliance and legal discovery,
content re-use, improved decision-making and operational
efficiency.
Documentum Archive Services for Imaging is a packaged offering
that combines EMC Captiva InputAccel® document capture
software with EMC Documentum technology and is designed
for customers who manage large volumes of paper documents.
It converts paper documents to electronic images to free-up
physical storage space; enables rapid and secure electronic
access to stored information within the enterprise; and
facilitates enterprise-wide search and discovery to eliminate
unmanaged archives and minimize document loss. As a result,
customers in industries such as banking, insurance, healthcare,
legal, manufacturing and government can lower costs, improve
operational efficiencies, mitigate risks and manage changing
business requirements.
"The implementation of the EMC Documentum platform
and EMC Captiva InputAccel has helped us to significantly
reduce the amount of paper generated and manual labor required
to review over 2,500 tax returns each year. This solution
has shaved over 1,000 hours of labor that was previously
needed to print, organize, and track tax returns during
the two-month window that our Tax department has in which
to review these returns. In addition, our acquisition and
asset management teams now spend less time searching for
documents and more time managing their deals," said
Brian Madden, Director of Information Technology at Boston
Capital. "I can see how companies that deal with large
volumes of paper documents would want to get started by
using Documentum Archive Services for Imaging, which offers
the flexibility to expand content management and enterprise
archiving capabilities based on changing business needs."
Documentum Archive Services for Imaging is also the first
in the industry to provide enterprise-class document image
archiving based on a unified archiving platform. Like other
EMC Documentum Archive Services software, it employs a holistic
set of retention, storage and security policies and access
tools for archiving not just document images, but also enterprise
reports, e-mail and SAP content. With this unified archiving
approach, customers can reduce costs associated with archiving
information in paper form, consolidate siloed archives for
different information types and provide faster access to
archived information.
"In less than a year since we launched our enterprise
archiving strategy, we have made great headway in delivering
customers products and solutions that address the increasing
complexity of managing, storing and accessing archived information,"
said Dave DeWalt, President, EMC Software Group. "Today's
announcement demonstrates our continued commitment to our
strategy and reflects the demand we see from customers to
have a unified archiving approach for managing all types
of information. We will continue to apply this strategy
across other forms of information in the future."
EMC's unified archiving software platform is supported
by the full range of EMC's industry-leading storage systems
including EMC Centera™ content addressed storage (CAS),
EMC CLARiiON® and EMC Symmetrix® storage systems
as well as non-EMC storage platforms. Documentum Archive
Services for Imaging is available immediately. Prices vary
by configuration. For more information on these and other
EMC software products, please visit http://software.emc.com/.
EMC also announced EMC Captiva InputAccel® for EOBs™
document-capture software (see separate release). Available
immediately, Captiva InputAccel for EOBs is designed to
help healthcare providers streamline and accelerate the
processing of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) forms, reduce
errors and recover medical procedure revenues otherwise
left unclaimed. When combined with Documentum Archive Services
for Imaging, Captiva InputAccel for EOBs provides an end-to-end
solution for intelligently capturing, archiving and accessing
EOB forms.
"The acquisition of Captiva has enabled EMC to provide
integrated content management and intelligent capture solutions
that meet specific needs of each industry¡ª whether it's
financial services, healthcare or insurance," said
Rob Tarkoff, Senior Vice President of Strategy, Business
Development and Alliances, EMC Software Group. "This
synergy underscores EMC's strategy and commitment to provide
customers with industry-leading, best-of-breed, integrated
solutions for information infrastructure management."
The company also announced today an enhanced version of
EMC's backup solution for the EMC Documentum platform. Available
in June 2006, EMC NetWorker Module for Documentum provides
customers with synchronized tape or disk-based backup and
recovery of all EMC Documentum enterprise content management
repository elements including full-text indexes containing
index information for documents in the repository, databases
containing document information and relationships, storage
areas containing content files and information, and configuration
files containing Documentum software and configuration files.
Now, customers can receive stronger recovery management
of critical Documentum assets and components. This offering,
in addition to EMC's broad range of recovery management
products, supports the industry-wide shift in emphasis from
the process and technologies of backup to the ability to
quickly, easily and comprehensively respond to and recover
from any data event.
EMC is showcasing its family of enterprise archiving software
products, including the new Documentum Archive Services
for Imaging, at this week's AIIM Conference & Expo (booth
#1512 and #713) and at the Storage Decisions Conference
(booth #600).
