New 10-port and SCSI Models of Decru DataFort™
Appliances Extend Support for Large Enterprise and Legacy
Environments
Decru, a NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) company, today unveiled
a series of new products to strengthen storage security
across the entire enterprise. These new products deliver
increased enterprise-class scalability, native support for
legacy tape environments, simplified management, and up
to 75% greater price-performance. New introductions include:
- Decru DataFort™ FC1020, a 10-port storage security
appliance that delivers 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps)
of total encryption and compression throughput for Fibre
Channel tape environments;
- Decru DataFort™ S115, a 2-port appliance for SCSI
tape environments;
- Lifetime Key Management™ system 2.5 enables automation
of enterprise-wide key management for NAS, DAS, SAN, iSCSI
and tape environments. The new version extends disaster
recovery support for up to four sites, and enables partner
information sharing with the Software Recovery client;
- In addition, the DataFort platform now incorporates
enhanced system security features, including hardware-based
SHA-512 cryptographic hash functions.
¡°Storage security has emerged as a critical defense layer
for sensitive or regulated data, and Decru solutions now
secure many of the world¡¯s largest corporations and governments,¡±
said Kevin Brown, vice president of marketing at Decru.
¡°No other solution can match Decru¡¯s scalability, military-grade
security, and transparent support for heterogeneous storage
environments.¡±
NEXT-GENERATION PLATFORMS
Decru provides the industry¡¯s only unified platform for
securing data at rest across the enterprise. DataFort appliances
protect the application and storage infrastructure with
a layer of wire-speed encryption, authentication, access
controls, and secure logging. Customers can deploy DataFort
appliances transparently in NAS, DAS, SAN, iSCSI and tape
backup environments, with no changes to servers, desktops,
applications, or user workflow. New offerings include:
Decru DataFort FC1020: This new model is a 10-port, 2U
storage security appliance designed for large enterprise
tape backup environments running 2 Gbps Fibre Channel. DataFort
FC1020 delivers up to 10 Gbps of total encryption and compression
throughput per appliance, representing the industry¡¯s highest
performance, port density, and scalability. Customers can
now create DataFort cluster configurations of up to 48 ports,
enabling high availability and centralized management for
large backup environments.
Decru DataFort S115: This new model provides native support
for legacy SCSI tape environments. DataFort S115 extends
Decru¡¯s existing Fibre Channel tape and mainframe tape partner
solutions to enable unified encryption and key management
across all enterprise tape environments.
Lifetime Key Management 2.0: The updated Lifetime Key Management™
(LKM) system provides a centralized, automated key management
infrastructure for secure archiving and sharing of encryption
keys. LKM has been extended to support all new DataFort
appliances, and each DataFort appliance can back up keys
to four separate LKM servers, providing robust disaster
recovery, key sharing and key escrow capabilities. The updated
Software Recovery client provides software-based decryption
for disaster recovery, as well as enabling secure information
sharing for partners, vendors, and outsourcing initiatives.
Hardware-based SHA-512: In February 2005, Chinese researchers
announced cryptanalytic findings that revealed significant
weaknesses in the popular SHA-0 and SHA-1 hashing algorithms.
As a result, security experts have recommended migration
to much stronger algorithms such as SHA-256 or SHA-512 for
authentication and integrity functions. Decru implemented
hardware-based SHA-256 in early 2004, well in advance of
the current research findings. New Decru firmware versions
now support SHA-512 for enhanced system security. Decru
DataFort¡¯s hardware encryption module, the Storage Encryption
Processor (SEP), can be upgraded to run the new firmware,
providing investment protection and enhanced security for
previously deployed DataFort appliances.
Availability
Decru DataFort FC1020 and Lifetime Key Management 2.5 are
available immediately. SHA-512 is available immediately
in new firmware versions, and recent generations of SEP
can be upgraded to incorporate the new features. Decru DataFort
S115 is planned for availability in Q1¡¯06.
