Toad for MySQL 2.0 Simplifies Code Editing
and Features Advanced Administration Capabilities
Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) today announced the
release of Toad for MySQL version 2.0 ¨C now available at
no charge. As MySQL is increasingly adopted for mission-critical
applications, the new version of Toad for MySQL offers advanced
administration and security capabilities, as well as more
reporting options. This gives MySQL developers and administrators
better manageability and more flexibility, resulting in
better performing and more scalable MySQL databases.
¡°Companies like MySQL are changing the way the world views
databases¡± said Billy Bosworth, director of database product
management, Quest Software. ¡°According to a recent Forrester
report, the open source database market could grow to more
than $1 billion by 2008. We plan to help drive this new
paradigm to higher standards of quality, functionality and
performance with our development and administration tools.
This latest version of Toad for MySQL is a big step in that
direction.¡±
In addition to being available at no charge, Toad for MySQL
version 2.0 includes new features such as:
- Version Control Integration allows users to quickly
check-in and check-out code from within the editor, reducing
the risk of errors.
- Database Security Manager enables the administrator
to permit or restrict user access to specific features
of Toad, providing better control over the system.
- Macro Record and Playback gives users the ability to
record and play back keyboard commands, enhancing usability
and reducing manual effort.
¡°I have looked hard at competing products for managing
MySQL,¡± said Boyd E. Hemphill, a MySQL Consultant for Live
Oak Interactive, Round Rock, Texas, ¡°and only Toad stands
up to the pounding I give it with very large databases (50
GB data, 100+ tables). As MySQL moves to the enterprise,
I believe Toad and the MySQL Query Browser are the only
viable GUI options.¡±
