VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS) today announced that VERITAS Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Server and VERITAS i3 for SQL Server now supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions. In conjunction with Microsoft's expanded platform launch, today customers can upgrade to the x64 operating system with the confidence that their IT environment will be supported by the Gold Standard in Windows data protection, VERITAS Backup Exec software, and the industry's preeminent application service management software suite, VERITAS i3. In addition, VERITAS unveiled a product roadmap supporting Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions across its storage management, high availability and disaster recovery solutions.

VERITAS Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers sets the Gold Standard for comprehensive, cost-effective and certified backup and recovery software. An intuitive, web-based user interface simplifies installation of backup and remote servers with easy-to-use wizards. Additionally, with centralized administration, Backup Exec software provides scalable management and monitoring of multiple Backup Exec servers from a single console across IT organizations. With a simple web download of the x64 agent for Backup Exec, customers can leverage VERITAS' agent accelerator technology for Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition through data transfer and software compression to minimize network bandwidth utilization and reduce backup times.
VERITAS i3 for SQL Server provides a complete view of application performance by capturing, measuring, and correlating performance metrics from all critical system components. VERITAS i3 enables SQL server database administrators to proactively identify application performance bottlenecks, pinpoint their cause and identify the most effective course of action for maintaining application service levels. Customers today are challenged to increase the performance and maximize the return on investments. With support of both Windows Server 2003 32 and x64 Editions for VERITAS i3, customers can easily run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications and make the gradual shift to 64-bit computing at their own pace while preserving current investments in 32-bit applications.

Striving to meet the changing business demands of Windows environments, VERITAS software supports all major operating systems, including the latest upgrades to the Windows platform. VERITAS' product roadmap for Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions users includes:

- VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows: Provides easy-to-use online storage management, enables high availability of data, optimized I/O performance, and allows freedom of choice in storage hardware investments.

- VERITAS Storage Foundation High Availability for Windows: Reduces planned and unplanned downtime and provides easy to use and efficient HA administration through a single console to application and replication failover.

- VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows - Volume Replicator Option: Provides a flexible and storage independent solution to deliver disaster recovery when data currency and availability are paramount.

"Microsoft is extremely pleased that VERITAS is supporting Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions across the company's backup, storage management, high availability, disaster recovery and application service management product lines," said John Borozan, senior product manager, Windows Server Division at Microsoft. "Working with industry leaders such as VERITAS enables our joint customers to transition to powerful 64-bit computing systems with confidence and at their own pace. Utilizing technology from both companies, customers can also expect substantial performance improvements relative to their 32-bit computing systems used today."

Building on a technology partnership dating to the early 1990s, many VERITAS technologies are included within Windows operating systems. The relationship continues today, as VERITAS products support the new application programming interfaces and storage capabilities built into Windows Storage Server 2003 64-bit Itanium and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions.
