VERITAS Software Maintains Lead in Backup and Archive, File System Software Markets

VERITAS remains leading independent supplier of storage software
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS) announced today
that it maintained its position as the world¡¯s No. 1 supplier
of backup/archiving and file system software through the
first quarter of 2005, according to the latest IDC Worldwide
Quarterly Storage Software Tracker. Customers around the
world continue to select VERITAS Software to protect, recover,
manage and archive their data, which is underscored by the
latest market share results released by IDC. VERITAS has
maintained its leadership position in the backup and archive
storage software market for ten consecutive quarters with
41.6 percent revenue share, compared to 13.5 percent for
its nearest competitor (EMC) for the first quarter of 2005.
The report from IDC also presented VERITAS' historical
leadership in the file system software market, where VERITAS
Software commands 36.6 percent revenue share. In addition,
VERITAS continues to see increased adoption of its storage
resource management (SRM) and replication software, two
market segments also reflected in the latest IDC report.

is well protected and effectively managed so they can continue

As in quarters past, VERITAS Software held the highest
overall storage software market share of any non-hardware
based company in the IDC study.
